Over the past six weeks we have shared with you five practices that will help your teams to work more efficiently, collaborate better, and establish a good working culture. These practices are helpful for remote workers but can also be used as general guidelines to establish an open innovation culture within your business. Here is an overview of our recommendations:

Practice 1: HOW TO ENSURE KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE AND TRANSPARENCY

  • Establish easy-access databases
  • Create transparency about workload and allocated time
  • Share personal information, if it affects your efficiency

Practice 2: HOW TO CREATE COMMON UNDERSTANDING IN A DIVERSE TEAM

  • Put yourself in the shoes of your team members
  • Establish regular round tables

Practice 3: HOW TO CREATE COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP IN A DIVERSE AND DISTRIBUTED TEAM

  • Decentralised leadership
  • Keep online meetings short, precise and efficient.

Practice 4: HOW TO BUILD A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR TEAM MEMBERS

  • Building a relationship with your co-workers and knowledge exchange partners has many positive effects. It fosters creativity, creates a positive work environment, boosts productivity and it drives innovation.

Ways to achieve that:
  • Active listening
  • Ask questions and encourage your co-workers to expand on what they’re saying
  • Share your knowledge and suggest that your colleagues can contact you if they have questions
  • Have conversations beyond professional context

Practice 5: HOW TO DISRUPT KNOWLEDGE SHARING BARRIERS AMONG TEAM MEMBERS

  • Among team members, knowledge sharing is often connected with job loss, loss of control and the fear of being replaced.
  • Knowledge exchange must become a standard procedure, so team members do not associate bad attitudes towards it in the first place. Practices to achieve that are: Job rotation, job enlargement and job enrichment.

How are you coping with working remotely? Do you feel exhausted, unmotivated, and in need of ‘real’ social interaction? Or are you more efficient and more comfortable when working from home? We would love to hear your thoughts on this.
